Rider Cape - the big daddy of all flip flops!
Why are my Rider Capes the best flip flops in the world?
Like an old pair of denim jeans, a tatty but comfortable jacket or your favourite shorts - once worn in, there simply is nothing better to wear on your feet than Cape flip flops. My Capes are better than anything I can think of, I get annoyed when it's so cold I can't wear them. Going back to wearing shoes all restricted and confining is like being forced to stay inside when the sun is shining or stuck at work when your mates are heading out.
Last summer I had to go to a business meeting and it only dawned on me that morning that I would have to wear shoes - in summer! A suit and shoes. Ahh, it was not a good day and there was nothing better than getting back home and putting my Capes on. Am I obsessed? Maybe, but only because they are so good.
Why are Capes so good?
For me it's down to a few little things, but they are the little things that make all the difference to me.
- They're constructed from several different materials, this means they are super durable and strong where they need to be. My present pair are 2 years old, a mate has a pair that are over 5 years old and he wears them almost every day! Whilst being strong where needed they are also very comfortable as needed. The insole has as a much more giving material to it, so as you walk around there is a small amount of cushioning than means you can be on your feet all day and not feel it at all.
- The shape of the strap and toe post are extremely refined and fit perfectly. I used to have Havaianas but they rubbed all the skin from the top of my foot and where so painful between my toes I couldn't wear them any longer. Capes are nothing like Havaianas to wear. I don't even know there is something between my toes. The more rigid moulded shape of the strap on the Riders means the toe post is vertical and so does not rub on your toes. It also lifts the straps slightly higher than your foot, so the straps crossing your foot make contact on the sides of your feet not directly above your toes. For me this means they stay on so perfectly I can run in them, but almost from the first day they never rubbed.
- They look cool. They're understated but unique. I like the flip flops and I like the ethos behind the company that makes them.
Although mine are only 2 years old and have plenty of life left in them I'm going to get some more this year because they are just so good I feel I need a second pair!
