Now spending some time back in Cornwall to recover from the knee injury sustained on the wave which gained him a Billabong XXL award nomination, Jayce has put together this great little edit...
On the morning of 12 December 2011 during one of the biggest swells in recent memory, Jayce was towed into a wave which will live long in his memory.

I walked miles & miles & miles in my flip flops!

The children’s Easter school holiday seems to go on for ever, how can two weeks, even when it’s filled with day long activities, feel more like two months? Don’t take this wrong, I love spending time with our two beautiful children, but 16 days can seem like an enternity.

So how do you fill the time, what activities are available to keep everyone busy and happy? Fortunately the weather has been simply glorious and we are lucky enough to live near the beach. So, thankfully quite a few days can be filled by simply treking over to the beach, enjoying the sunshine, chatting with friends and plastering endless suncream on the kids.

Yesterday we travelled to a local beach and spent almost the entire morning messing around in and out of the water, looking in rock pools and exploring what we could find as we dug down into the sand.

For lunch the children insisted that the only thing that could satisfy their appetite was chips! Not normal for us, but they had spent all morning running around and so I thought fine, we’ll go get some chips - not remembering that the local beach cafe was closed.

The next closest cafe was on a neighboroughing beach, there was no disuading the children, so we packed everything up, put our flip flops on and started up the path to the top of the shoreline. Halfway up the hill I realised, these are new flip flops. I only ordered them last week and have worn them for just a couple of days on the beach - I haven’t really had time to cover any distance in them. Thoughts of blisters and saw feet came to mind in fear of the flip flops rubbing away half of the skin on my feet.

I’ve had bad experiences before with Havaianas when they have abliterated my feet if I don’t make sure they are very broken in before walking any more than a very short trip in them.

The walk around to the next beach is not too bad, it’s quite far, maybe 3 or 4 miles but is fairly flat and grass or sandy path all the way. The children marched on motivated by the thought of chips for dinner, a rare treat, and I walked tentatively carrying what seemed like half of all our worldly belongings in a carrier bag, rucksack and stuffed under my arms - waiting for the rubbing to start.

Rider Island Womens flip flops After a little time I got distracted by talking to my gorgeous daughter and didn’t think about my feet for a while. It was only after we got about halfway around that I remembered and quickly noticed my feet didn’t hurt at all. No rubbing, no aching of a pending blister. Actually my feet felt great strolling along talking to the kids in the fresh air on a beautiful sunny day, I don’t think it could of been any nicer. We arrived at the next beach in good time and got our chips.

Whilst sitting there over lunch I thought about the little walk, it made me smile. I assumed it was going to be terrible, that my feet would be destroyed and the kids would be naughty. When actually it was glorious, the children where angels and my feet where the absolute opposite of painful, walking miles in MY Island flip flops was very very pleasant, I looked forward to the walk back to the car and enjoyed it even more.

Why is MY in capitals above, because there is absolutely no way I am giving up MY Island flip flops now, I love, love, love them. I may need to get some more so I have some colour options.
